Best AI writing tools

Here is an in-depth review of the different AI text generators.

1. GetResponse AI Assistant – For email writing

The GetResponse AI assistant is designed to help marketers generate high-quality newsletters, autoresponders, and automation messages. The AI writing assistant is integrated into the GetResponse marketing platform, making it super convenient for marketers. You will find it within the email editor, meaning you don’t need to jump between multiple tools when creating your campaigns.

The AI Assistant is super useful in different ways. For starters, you can prompt it like any other AI tool in an empty text block. The assistant will then produce relevant copy based on your prompt.

The other way to use the assistant is in text refinement. Activate the AI assistant and ask it to help you with enhancing your copy. The assistant can simplify, shorten, add details, change tone, or even translate your copy.

Pros

  • Enhances your writing process since it’s readily available within the GetResponse marketing tools
  • Helps with brainstorming email content ideas. No more staring at a blank page.
  • Affordable. The tool is included in all GetResponse paid plans

Cons

  • Prompts are limited to a maximum of 300 characters, including spaces.

Pricing

The GetResponse AI assistant is free to use for all paid GetResponse users, including those on the cheapest plan, which costs $15.58 per month. Only the users on the free forever GetResponse plan have no access to the tool.

Effortlessly create emails that convert with GetResponse. Featuring smart segmentation, personalization, AI-powered content, and send-time optimization.

2. ChatGPT – For technical writing and documentation

ChatGPT can be classified as an all-in-one AI writing tool. This software can write pretty much every type of content, ranging from short-form marketing copy like product descriptions to long-form content like blog posts. It all comes down to your prompting skills.

But, there’s a specific area where ChatGPT excels above most other AI writing generators. This is in technical writing and documentation.

One of the biggest strengths of ChatGPT is that it can process and recall large amounts of data. The tool can also understand complex ideas and even help in simplifying them.

That means you can use ChatGPT very effectively for things like API documentation as well as complex scientific and engineering writing.

And since the platform is really good at simplifying complex concepts, you can also use it to create customer-facing documents. You can use it to create user guides for your non-technical audiences, for example.

ChatGPT content writing prompt

That said, ChatGPT still falls short in a few areas. The tool can still produce inaccurate information, for instance. That means you must have a human in the loop to do fact-checking.

Also, ChatGPT does not integrate with documentation platforms like Read the Docs. This is where other AI assistants for technical documentation, like GitHub Copilot, get the upper hand over ChatGPT.

Pros

  • Excellent at simplifying complex information
  • Processes and recalls large amounts of data from a conversation
  • Great free tool

Cons

  • Limited fact-checking
  • Requires great prompting to produce great output
  • Unlike GitHub Copilot, it doesn’t integrate with documentation platforms like Read the Docs and Docusaurus

Pricing

ChatGPT has a great free plan you can use to handle most of the writing. However, access to the latest smartest model requires upgrading to the ChatGPT Plus plan, which costs $20 per month. That plan also gets you limited access to the Sora video generation tool.

Lastly, there is the Pro plan, which costs $200 per month. The plan supports unlimited access to Sora video generation. You will also have access to research previews of GPT-4.5 and Operator.

3. Jasper – For long-form content writing

Jasper is one of the oldest AI writing tools on this list. The platform was initially known as Conversion.ai before rebranding to Jasper.

Jasper is built to be the one-stop location for marketing teams. The platform provides various AI solutions for creating different assets to support your content marketing efforts. You have an AI writer for long-form content, a tool to create product descriptions, and other solutions for PR and comms, brand marketing, and product marketing.

One of the biggest advantages of Jasper is that it allows you to create a writing style guide, visual guidelines, and brand voice. The tools will then use your guidelines to create unique content that aligns with your branding requirements.

Alongside that, the platform has an “Enhance Prompt” feature. This enhances any prompt you provide to give you quality output. So you don’t need advanced prompt engineering skills to get the best out of this platform.

Jasper AI writing tool

You can use Jasper to write blog posts, case studies, press releases, landing page copy, and social media posts. It has an AI email writing tool as well.

The platform also lets you create campaigns encompassing different assets. So you can create a campaign on a single topic with blog posts, emails, and social media posts in just a few clicks.

Pros

  • The Jasper Chat has been trained on marketing use cases to help you create effective marketing materials
  • It has an SEO mode where it integrates with SurferSEO to produce SEO-optimized content
  • It integrates with Google Docs to help you write AI content within Google Docs

Cons

  • No free plan
  • Other tools like ChatGPT and Qwen are much better for research-heavy content writing
  • The Surfer SEO integration comes at an extra cost

Pricing

Jasper has no free plan. They do have a free trial, but you must submit your credit card details to try it out.

Jasper offers three paid packages, starting with the Creator plan that costs $39/month for the annual plan. This gets you only one seat, one brand voice, the SEO mode, and access to Jasper Chat.

The Pro plan goes for $59 per seat per month. You can have up to 5 seats, three brand voices, and ten knowledge assets. It also gives you access to AI image generation and editing tools, as well as collaboration and user management.

Finally, there’s the Business plan, which has custom pricing. This gets you unlimited access to all tools, a dedicated account manager, advanced security controls, and automation capabilities.

4. Writesonic – For SEO content

Writesonic is an AI writing platform that uses different tools to help you create content that is optimized for search engines like Google, as well as generative engines like ChatGPT and Gemini.

One of those tools is the AI article writer. But this is not just another article writer like ChatGPT and Jasper. Writesonic’s writer goes a step further to help with things like internal linking and SEO optimization

It does that by analyzing the ranking content in real time to write optimized articles that are more likely to rank on search engines. It also lets you upload specific files or pages that you referenced in the article.

Writesonic AI writing tool

Writesonic also supports style and brand voice customization, so you can produce content that aligns with your overall branding style.

In addition to the article writer, Writesonic offers an AI chatbot called Chatsonic. You can interact with this chatbot to create different types of content, including product descriptions, onboarding sequences, case studies, interactive quizzes, infographics, and even tools like calculators.

One major drawback with Writesonic is that it can get expensive fast. The platform uses a credits or points system. These credits deplete as you use different features.

For example, changing the quality setting from Good (10 credits) to Superior (20 credits) means spending an extra 10 credits. And if you switch all the way to Elite, you end up spending 100 credits on a single article.

Pros

  • Socialsonic helps you stay on top of industry trends and grow your LinkedIn presence
  • Writes your content with real-time data
  • It can write content in up to 24 languages

Cons

  • The SEO optimization feature is not as effective as Surfer SEO’s
  • It gets expensive fast when you need to write more than five articles per month

Pricing

Writesonic has a free plan, but it only gets you access to basic features and supports just one article per month.

You must upgrade to the paid plans to unlock premium features. Paid plans start at $16 per month and support up to five articles per month. You also get 100 credits to use on the premium features.

According to user reviews on G2, these credits exhaust pretty fast, forcing you to spend even more.

Next is the Standard plan, which costs $79/mo. It provides 1,000 monthly credits and offers additional features like bulk article generation, AI topic clusters, and AI content grader.

Finally, there’s the Enterprise package that comes at a custom price with custom credits. This plan is customized to meet your specific enterprise needs. It also supports advanced SSO and security, security & governance, and legal & security reviews to ensure relevant compliance.

5. Claude – For ethical documentation

Claude AI by Anthropic

Claude is an AI assistant developed by Anthropic. The tool is very similar to ChatGPT in that it can help you create different types of content for different needs. You can even use it for brainstorming and research.

Claude is also built to be safe, secure, and accurate to produce quality output with minimal hallucinations. This makes it an ideal option when you want to create delicate documents for things like policies, laws, and ethics.

Additionally, the platform lets you upload your own documents and files. You can then query it for insights based on those files.

The Claude Team and Enterprise plans allow you to share your Claude chats with other team members to boost collaboration.

Pros

  • Provides thoughtful and ethical responses with fewer hallucinations
  • Has large context windows, i.e., it can recall large amounts of information from conversations
  • Good for research and analytical writing

Cons

  • It’s quite slow, especially the latest model
  • Not a good option for SEO or marketing content writing

Pricing

Claude has a free plan that gives you access to its standard model and basic features.

You can upgrade to the pro package for $18/mo to use Claude 3.7 Sonnet, which has an extended thinking mode. This plan also gives you early access to new features and lets you organize documents and chats with projects.

The Team plan costs $25 per person/mo. It gives you greater access to the features and early access to collaboration tools.

You can also get in touch with the Claude sales team for a custom plan.

6. Grammarly – For short-form content writing

Grammarly is a popular writing assistant used for proofreading and plagiarism analysis. The platform has recently introduced an AI feature that helps with content writing.

Grammarly's AI writing tool

The Grammarly AI content generator is very easy to use. You can start by providing your ideal voice. This option lets you choose formality (casual, neutral, or formal) and tone (witty, confident, empathetic, personable, etc).

You can also choose your profession and the type of English you want, i.e., US English, UK English, Canadian English, or Indian English.

Once that is done, simply prompt the tool to produce the type of content you want. You can then go in to make any changes you want.

The problem with Grammarly is that it is not very advanced compared to other writing tools like Writesonic and Jasper. For example, besides the option to set voice, you don’t get any other customization options. You also can’t decide the word count, and it seems to have a limited context window.

It’s for such reasons that this tool feels like a better option for shorter-form content like social media posts. It may also work well for enhancing content you’ve already written. For example, you can use it to add a new subheading to an article you were scanning on Grammarly in case you notice something is missing.

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Access to advanced editing, proofreading, and plagiarism analysis

Cons

  • Not as advanced as other content writing tools like Jasper

Pricing

The option to write with Generative AI is included in both the Grammarly free and premium versions. The difference is in the number of prompts. You’ll get only 100 prompts with the free plan, while the premium $12/mo package comes with 2,000 AI prompts.

The platform also provides a Business plan with unlimited features and prompts, BYOK encryption, dedicated support, and custom roles and permissions.

7. Surfer AI – For SEO-optimized articles

Surfer AI's interface for generating seo optimized content

Surfer is best known for its content optimization tool. The tool analyzes top-ranking content for any given keyword. It then identifies subheadings, phrases, keywords, and the ideal word count required to rank for the article.

The Surfer AI writer is designed to do something similar, only this time, you have an AI writing the content for you instead of a human.

Yes, the Surfer AI content writer analyzes the top-ranking articles and then writes an article that addresses the same search intent. These articles also come optimized right out of the box. But, of course, you can go in to polish the article before publication.

Surfer’s AI generator lets you pick the tone of voice and the keywords you want to target. You can also upload a template if you’re writing articles like a single product review or product roundups.

The tool then generates a blog outline that you can review and edit before it starts writing the article.

Surfer also has an AI assistant called Surfy. This assistant can help you with refining specific portions of an article. You could ask it to simplify a specific paragraph, for example.

Pros

  • Content is optimized for search engines automatically
  • The Surfy assistant helps you with enhancing existing content
  • It can auto-insert images and add internal links automatically

Cons

  • Slightly expensive compared to other tools
  • Ideal for articles only

Pricing

Plans start at $75 per month. This plan lets you create up to 60 AI articles per year and invite five teammates. You can write and optimize up to 360 articles/year.

The Scale plan costs $175 per month. Generate 240 AI articles and write and optimize up to 1200 articles per year.

8. Anyword – For data-backed content writing

The platform provides several tools, including a data-driven editor. You can create ads, emails, social media posts, and other shorter-form marketing assets within this editor. The editor will ensure the assets use proven words and are formatted in a way that boosts their performance.

Plus, there are more than 100 proven templates you can work with.

For long-form content, Anyword provides the Blog Wizard, which can produce accurate and SEO-optimized articles in just a few clicks. Just give the Wizard a brief description of your blog article, the SEO keywords you want to target, your target audience, and tone of voice.

Anyword's interface for data-backed AI content writing

One nice touch from Anyword is that they have a step where the tool scans the web for relevant data and statistics. It then lets you pick the data you want included in the article. This is really helpful in making your articles feel more authoritative and data-backed.

Anyword's interface for AI outline generation

Anyword can also help you with improving existing content. It can help refine your landing page copy, emails, etc., using A/B tested data.

Pros

  • Data-backed content writing for optimal performance
  • Comes with a plagiarism checker
  • Integrates with different solutions, including ad platforms like Meta Ads, Google Ads, and LinkedIn Ads.

Cons

  • Quite expensive compared to other AI tools
  • The output can feel like AI-generated content a bit too much
  • Formatting is not that great for long-form content. It produces chunky paragraphs. You must go in to add bullet points and images.

Pricing

Anyword offers four plans starting with the Starter package, which costs $49/mo. This plan supports unlimited copy generation, but you only get one seat and 50 performance predictions.

The Data-Driven plan costs $99/mo. It supports 100 real-time performance predictions and three seats.

You can produce content briefs in seconds using their AI writing models. You can also apply your desired value proposition, brand voice, and best practices to ensure the content produced sounds exactly right.

Copy.ai also has a powerful content repurposing solution. This tool can turn transcripts from sales calls or events into blog posts, emails, and other types of content.

Pros

  • Easily translate content in up to 95 languages
  • Supports other marketing and sales activities like prospecting, account-based marketing, deal coaching and forecasting, and inbound lead processing

Cons

  • Long-form content will require heavy editing to reach the desired quality standard

Pricing

Copy.ai has a free plan that supports 2,000 words in chat for one seat.

The Starter paid plan costs $49/mo for unlimited chat projects, unlimited words in chat, and access to the latest LLMs. But it supports just one seat.

Then there’s the Advanced plan, which costs $249/mo, supports up to five seats, 15+ sales workflows, 15+ marketing workflows, and 2K workflow credits/mo.

Things to keep in mind

AI writing tools are mostly wrappers of ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and other similar platforms like Claude. However, the different tools available on the market today have been fine-tuned to cater to different needs.

For example, the GetResponse AI assistant is tailored to help with marketing content writing and, especially, with email writing. Then you have tools like Jasper and Writesonic that try to do everything.

At the same time, you can still use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and even Qwen to write content. But these tools will require advanced prompting to get quality output.

With that said, you must remember that AI content requires a human touch to get to the required quality. So, make sure to have a human in the loop to handle the last mile.
