How to create an ecommerce campaign for Abandoned Cart?

ecommerce campaign lets you automate sending reminders about the products your customers have left in their carts and encourage them to complete their order and proceed to the checkout page.

This solution we offer allows you to notify a consumer about an abandoned cart even if they are not logged in to the store. At this point, messages will only be sent to subscribers, but we are working on making them available to consumers without marketing consent.

Note: while it is technically possible to run Abandoned Cart campaigns simultaneously with cart recovery flows in Quick Transactional Emails

and Marketing Automation, this is not recommended. Doing so may result in customers receiving multiple messages about the same cart, making it difficult to track the effectiveness of each campaign. To ensure accurate reporting and optimal customer experience, it is advised to disable cart recovery flows in Automation and Quick Transactional Emails when using the Abandoned Cart campaign.

Before you begin

Make sure to integrate GetResponse with your store. Ecommerce campaigns support Shopify, Prestashop, WooCommerce, Magento, and Shoper.

If you are already using any of our ecommerce plugins, make sure it is updated to the latest version.

Creating a new campaign

To create an Abandoned Cart ecommerce campaign, go to Campaigns >> Ecommerce campaigns and click Create campaign. You can build one from scratch or hover over the Abandoned cart tile and click Start to use a ready-made template.

To build an Abandoned Cart ecommerce campaign from scratch:

  1. Hover over Build from scratch tile and click Start.

  2. In Campaign name section, enter a name that will only be visible to you.



  3. In Content section, select campaign trigger: Abandoned Cart.



  4. Click Confirm.
  5. Content section now contains an Abandoned cart trigger. Click on it to expand the trigger settings, where you can change the waiting time before a cart is considered abandoned.



  6. Click + Add action button to define what happens after the trigger. You can add a Wait action and/or Send email action.



  7. In Wait, you can set up the time delay between each action.
    Note: The total duration of an Abandoned Cart campaign, including all wait times and triggers, cannot exceed 21 days.
  8. In Send email, hover over the email miniature and click Create new.
  9. You can create a message from scratch or use Predesigned or Created Templates. Only templates created as part of e-commerce campaigns are available, it is not possible to use newsletter templates, autoresponder templates, etc. Click Save and use when ready.
  10. Publish your campaign.

Additional info

  • The Abandoned Cart flow automatically ends once a customer completes their purchase. This ensures that they do not receive any further reminders about their abandoned cart.
  • The Abandoned Cart campaign allows businesses to send targeted messages to subscribers who have opted in to receive marketing communications. These messages can include discount codes to encourage a purchase or personalized product recommendations
  • The Abandoned Cart system automatically manages marketing permissions, ensuring that only customers who have provided consent receive promotional emails. It differentiates between marketing and transactional messages based on the customer’s consent preferences.
  • Carts are automatically rebuilt when a customer clicks a link in an Abandoned Cart email, regardless of whether they were logged in at the time of cart creation. Currently, these messages are only sent to subscribers, but efforts are underway to extend this feature to non-subscribers who have not opted into marketing communications.
  • Detailed statistics on abandoned and recovered carts, as well as the revenue generated from these campaigns, are available in the Reports >> Ecommerce section. This allows businesses to monitor and optimize their campaign performance effectively.
