How to manage domains for my landing pages or websites?

There are three reasons why you might want to add your own domain to GetRespose:

Adding domains to GetResponse

Here’s how to add a domain:

  1. Go to Emails and domains.

  5. A popup will show with GetResponse Nameservers. You need to update the DNS records in your domain hosting panel to fully add the domain.

The next step depends on what you want to do next, here you have detailed instructions:

Managing domains

Here’s how to manage a domain in GetResponse:

  1. Go to Emails and domains.
  2. Click on Website and landing page domains tab.
  3. Hover over the Actions icon (vertical ellipsis) beside your domain and then:
    • Set as default – when selected, we add that domain to the Web Connect code instead of GetResponse.com. That domain will also be used as a tracking domain to identify your visitors as your GetResponse contacts and track link clicks. This might be helpful if you have all external domain scripts blocked.
    • Clear default – to remove default status from your domain.
    • Disconnect from site – if your domain is linked with a landing page or website, you can unlink it here.
    • Add subdomain (for root domains only) – if your root domain is active, the subdomain will work automatically and won’t require any further action in your domain hosting panel.
    • View DNS records – to display the records required to make the domain active.
    • Delete domain – to remove domain from the list.

Only domains with Active status can be assigned to a landing page/website or used to create a business email alias. Below, you will find detailed descriptions of each status.

Domain statuses

What statuses mean:

  • Active – The DNS settings are properly configured, and the SSL certificate is active. The domain is ready to be connected to a landing page or website, and a business email alias can be set up for it.
  • Pending – We are waiting for you or your domain provider to update the nameservers. If the changes have already been propagated, we are currently processing the DNS updates. This process may take up to 24 hours after the nameservers are fully propagated.
  • Inactive – The necessary DNS records are not visible, which prevents the domain from being activated, or there is another tech issue. In any case, please contact our Customer Success Team via chat.

Note: Do not add the same domain to Website and landing page domains and (legacy) Landing page domains. Websites and new landing pages are using different DNS and adding the same domain to both places will cause it to malfunction.

Steps for legacy landing pages

You can manage your domains on the Landing page domains page. To open it, go to Profile>>Manage account>>Landing page domains.

Once you’re there, you can add, remove, and view the status of your domains. You can add as many domains as you need, and remove them according to your preferences. The Landing page domains tab also lets you know which domain you’ve assigned to a landing page, and how many landing pages live at that domain.

Here’s how it works:

To add new domains:

  1. Click Add domain.
  2. Enter your domain name.
  3. If you’re using a subdomain for your landing page, enter your subdomain name, too.
  4. Click Add domain.

Note: You can also add a new domain and then assign it to a landing page in the Landing page URL settings section of the My landing page settings page. If you need more information on how to do this, go to How do I assign my own domain or subdomain to a landing page?

If you’d like to see examples of when to use domains, subdomains, and directories for your landing pages, go to How can I use domains, subdomains, and directories for my landing pages?

To remove a domain:

  1. Click or hover over the Actions icon (vertical ellipsis) to open the options.
  2. Click Remove and confirm you want to remove the domain.

The landing page continues to live at subdomain hosted with GetResponse. If you’d like to remove the page itself, go to Menu>>Landing pages and select Delete from the Actions menu next to your landing page.

View the status

Status tells you whether you can assign a given domain to your landing page.

The domain isn’t active yet means that you need to give it up to 24 hours for our system to verify the DNS records for your domain. You don’t need to take any action. Just give it up to 24 hours for the process to conclude.

We weren’t able to verify this domain for 48 hours. Looks like you need to verify your DNS settings means you need to check if you’ve changed the settings properly. For reference, see How do I change the DNS settings?

This status lets you know that the domain you’d like to assign doesn’t show anywhere in the DNS records. We know the domain isn’t active and we’re not waiting for changes to propagate. This might happen if you’re trying to assign a domain that doesn’t exist anymore. For example, you had a domain but you deactivated it.

If you have any further questions, please contacts customer support at your domain provider.
